Life Time Athletic Green Valley highlights openings across valley

A massive health club new to Henderson bills itself as more than just a health club.

Also, local government leaders celebrate the grand opening of a technology-protection services center bringing hundreds of jobs, Sports Authority strengthens its reach throughout the Las Vegas Valley, more openings grace Downtown Summerlin, and another downtown restaurant closes.

    • Life Time Athletic Green Valley

      Life Time Athletic Green Valley held a grand-opening ceremony with a red-carpet event Nov. 6 and is set to open to its members at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

      The 171,000-square-foot, two-story club mixes fitness with luxury, offering sports and fitness training, family recreation and a spa amid resort settings.

      In addition to its myHealthScore program designed to integrate health into daily life, Life Time offers a resort-style aquatic center complete with lap pools, whirlpools and waterslides; indoor basketball courts; a tennis complex featuring four outdoor and eight indoor climate-controlled courts with a viewing lounge; a day spa and medi-spa; the chef-driven LifeCafe; and the Life Time Kids Academy.

      Life Time Athletic Green Valley is at 121 Carnegie St. in Henderson, near Green Valley Ranch Resort. The club will be open 24 hours a day and is the second location in the Las Vegas Valley, the other being at 10721 W. Charleston Blvd. in Summerlin.

      Life Time bought the 16.5-acre site of the Green Valley location from American Nevada Co. in September 2013 for about $10 million. Brian Greenspun, who owns VEGAS INC and the Las Vegas Sun, has partial ownership of American Nevada.

      Asurion, an international brand in technology protection services, held a ribbon-cutting event featuring local government leaders, including Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, on Oct. 30.

      Asurion, at 6605 Grand Montecito Parkway, brings with it about 500 jobs, according to a news release.

      Sports Authority recently hosted various events to celebrate a remodeling and two new locations in the Las Vegas Valley.

      The store at 2178 N. Rainbow Blvd. in Las Vegas has been remodeled, and new locations are at 2315 Summa Drive in Summerlin and 701 Marks St. in Henderson.

      Downtown Summerlin openings

      Downtown Summerlin announced the openings over the past week of Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, Kay Jewelers, Nekter Juice Bar and Sushi Loca.

      Wolfgang Puck is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

      Kay Jewelers is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

      Nekter Juice Bar is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

      Sushi Loca is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

      The Pilates Studio Las Vegas opened last week at 9540 W. Flamingo Road, Building A, Suite 140.

      The business, which originally opened in 2007 on South Durango Drive, offers an apparatus-based workout called Megaformer, corporate wellness programs, certification courses for Pilates professionals and group fitness, according to a news release.

      The Pilates Studio Las Vegas’ hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday; 7 a.m. to noon and 2-7 p.m. Tuesday; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday; 8 a.m. to noon and 2-7 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. to noon and 2-6 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to noon Saturday; and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, according to a news release.

      Fashion Show mall plans to launch Adventure to Santa by DreamWorks Animation at 10 a.m. Friday.

      Adventure to Santa is billed as an interactive experience combining storytelling and technology, along with Shrek and Santa.

      Fashion Show was selected as one of eight locations around the country to feature the show, according to a news release. Fashion Show is at 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

      Park Place Infiniti will host a grand-opening ceremony from 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

      The ceremony will include Vintner Grill dining, specialty-craft cocktails, a performance by Las Vegas-based philharmonic ensemble Vertex 3 and complimentary valet, according to an invitation.

      The dealership is at 5555 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas.

      It didn’t take long for the wildly popular Desnudo Tacos to resurface — in the form of a food truck.

      Desnudo Tacos, which shuttered in October, will be updating locations on its Facebook page.

      Kabob Korner, a Mediterranean-themed downtown restaurant, has closed.

      The restaurant, known for its affordable eats and signature gyros, closed about a month after its old neighbor, Uncle Joe’s Pizza, also closed.
