Golfsmith swings into valley; Freakin’ Frog offers specials as hiatus nears

Golfsmith International has opened a store as part of the Downtown Summerlin project, which opened Oct. 9.

A golf-store giant is in full swing in Las Vegas, and its arrival will be highlighted by giveaways and a contest.

Golfsmith International opened a store of about 25,000 square feet in Downtown Summerlin on Oct. 9. A grand-opening ceremony offering the public a chance to win big is set for Oct. 25.

Elsewhere, eateries centered on burgers and seafood emerged, a bar-and-beer-store fixture near UNLV plans sales and events as its hiatus approaches, and a popular resort closes.

      Golfsmith, at 2315 Summa Drive, opened in Downtown Summerlin on Oct. 9.

      The grand-opening celebration for the store is set for Oct. 25, highlighted by a $100,000 hole-in-one challenge in the store. A closest-to-the-pin qualifying contest will be held from 2-4 p.m., and the best two scorers each hour will win $100 gift cards each and be invited back for the 5 p.m. hole-in-one contest, according to a news release.

      Also, the first 200 customers at the grand opening will receive sleeves of Bridgestone golf balls and a buy-one-get-one free round of golf voucher for select golf courses. Representatives from Callaway, TaylorMade and Cobra will be on hand for equipment trials and fittings.

      The store’s hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

    • Quickee Burgers offers burgers, fries, cake, shakes and more, with various combination deals.

      Quickee Burgers opened its first Las Vegas Valley location Sept. 26 at 4371 N. Rancho Road.

      The restaurant offers more than its signature burgers, sliders and fries; red-velvet cake and shakes are also available.

      Quickee Burgers is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

    • A tilapia imperial meal is one of several sauteed and baked options at Bonefish Grill.

      Bonefish Grill

      Bonefish Grill opened another Las Vegas Valley location Sept. 29 at 8701 W. Charleston Blvd.

      The restaurant offers a wide range of seafood, including wood-grilled fish, sautéed and baked dishes, and wood-grilled steaks and chops, according to its website.

      Bonefish Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. It’s the second Bonefish Grill in the area, following the March 2013 opening of the restaurant at Town Square.

    • Freakin' Frog

      Freakin’ Frog, a staple of the nightlife scene near UNLV, will go on “hiatus” beginning in November.

      The bar and beer store, which also showcases live music and poetry at 4700 S. Maryland Parkway, will begin its hiatus Nov. 1 for an unknown time as part of the Maryland Parkway commercial revitalization effort.

      A beer-store sale that owner Adam Carmer called “the biggest beer sale in Nevada history” is under way and will continue until all items are sold. Additionally, Carmer said Freakin’ Frog will host a “Halloween Hiatus Party” at 7 p.m. Oct. 31, its final night before going on hiatus.

    • Blue Moon Resort

      Blue Moon Resort, a pool-party hotspot in the gay community that billed itself as “The Hotel for Men in Las Vegas,” has closed. Its final day of operation was Oct. 15, a guest-services agent confirmed.

      It’s unclear what the future has in store for the resort’s location at 2651 Westwood Drive, near the Artisan and across Interstate 15 from Palace Station.

      Guests who had upcoming reservations will receive deposit refunds, according to a statement from the resort.
