New restaurants pop up in Las Vegas, an old favorite closes

The California Noodle House recently opened at the California in downtown Las Vegas. Boyd Gaming officials say the opening is part of a companywide effort to revitalize nongaming offerings at its properties.

New restaurants are popping up all over the valley, while the Aria says ciao to an Italian favorite.

Handel’s Ice Cream makes it way from the Midwest to Las Vegas, while Town Square adds an upscale waxing salon — The Birthday Suit 2 — to its lineup of shops.

The California Noodle House opens downtown at the California, and Tom’s Urban makes its way to the Strip at the New York-New York.

Meanwhile, Sirio Ristorante at Aria closed last month.

      New York-New York got a new addition as Tom’s Urban restaurant opened last week.

      The modern restaurant is on the casino floor next to the Brooklyn Bridge. It is the third Tom’s Urban in the U.S. and the first in Las Vegas.

      The 12,000-square-foot restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, three bars, and is decorated with reclaimed wood and lively colors.

      Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night food.

      The menu features unique dishes like the Hangover Slopper, an angus burger on a butter-toasted brioche bun with pork green chile, queso fresco, pico de gallo, cheddar and jack cheese and topped with two fried eggs.

      Speciality drinks include the WTF, which is made with Jim Beam whiskey, red wine, Brooklyn Brewery beer, and orange and blackberry liqueur.

      The Birthday Suit has opened its second location, at Town Square Las Vegas.

      Opened by a husband-and-wife team Jason and Stacey Laricchia, the salon is in Town Square’s LOOK Style Society and offers waxing and facial services.

      The 1,100-square-foot salon features treatment rooms, a reception area and a children’s lounge. The salon sells it own line of skin care and bath products, as well as top products from other cosmetic companies.

      The Birthday Suit 2 is located at 6539 Las Vegas Boulevard, Suite 110-111 and is open daily.

      Downtown Las Vegas gets a new restaurant, California Noodle House, at the California.

      The restaurant is formed around an open show kitchen, so guests can watch their food being prepared. The design of the restaurant is Pacific Rim inspired, featuring paper lanterns, abstract art and textile on the walls.

      Designers from Tandem Design say the restaurant is styled to be family friendly and inviting. Diners can enjoy a menu of noodle dishes, such as Beef Chow Fun and Pad Thai.

      Korean, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiian food inspired the menu and make for an array of choices.

      The restaurant is located at 12 E. Ogden Ave. and is open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. daily.

      Sirio Ristorante closed in the Aria in December.

      After five years in Las Vegas, the Italian restaurant will be replaced by a restaurant that has not yet been announced.

      Sirio Ristorante was the sister restaurant to Osterio Del Circo, which was at the Wynn Las Vegas and closed in September after a 15-year run.

      Sirio Ristorante was listed as one of the top places to eat in the book “Eating Las Vegas 2013: The 50 Essential Restaurants.”

      The menu featured artisan cheeses, hand-rolled thick spaghetti, spinach-infused homemade fusilli pasta and vintage wines.

      Both restaurants were owned by the Maccioni family.

      Las Vegas gets a new sweet treat with Handel’s Ice Cream shop’s first location in the valley.

      Patrick Frank, a young entrepreneur from Ohio, opened the iconic Midwest ice cream shop last week.

      The shop features 48 core flavors, each with natural ingredients laid in by hand. The menu also feature cakes, pies, and seasonal desserts.

      The shop is at 10170 West Tropicana Ave. and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
