The Las Vegas Valley's first location of the Southern-style chicken chain Chick-fil-A has been made official.

On Wednesday, the Las Vegas City Council approved a location to open in 2016 at Sahara Avenue and Rancho Drive, just west of Interstate 15.

The company plans to break ground early next year, city spokesman Jace Radke said.

The agenda for the council meeting referenced a site-development plan review for two proposed commercial buildings totaling 18,611 square feet on about 12.6 acres.

In June, the fast-food chain said it planned to open eight to 10 restaurants in Nevada in the next five years. At the time, Chick-fil-A said its first Nevada restaurant would open in the Las Vegas area in late 2016 or early 2017.

The chain's plans reportedly include a building at 460 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson. The company has filed for a conditional-use permit and a design review for the vacant building, formerly a Cox Communications office.

Chick-fil-A is known for its breaded, grilled and spicy chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. It also offers wraps, salads and milkshakes.

The chain, founded in 1946, has more than 1,800 restaurants in 39 states. The location closest to Las Vegas is in St. George, Utah, about two hours away.

According to an architectural review, the restaurant at Sahara and Rancho will employ about 80 part-time and full-time employees. It will be open 24 hours Monday through Saturday.

As with all Chick-fil-A restaurants, the eatery will be closed Sundays so employees can spend time with their families.

The review also says the restaurant will have two drive-thru lanes to accommodate a high volume of customers. The entrance to the Chick-fil-A will be on Rancho Drive.

The second building at the location is proposed as an in-line retail shell adjacent to the 4,611-square-foot restaurant, documents show. The project’s goal is to fill in the vacant end of the Sahara Rancho Office Center.
