Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming announced today that it will spend $2.5 million to expand the hotel college at UNLV.
Boyd said in a statement that it’s going to partner with the university on the construction of a new academic building for the hotel college.
“We believe that a strong and vibrant university is essential to a world-class community, and that’s why Boyd Gaming is committed to supporting the growth and success of UNLV,” said Boyd CEO Keith Smith in the statement.
The Boyd family name is already prominent at UNLV. Co-founder and executive chairman Bill Boyd made a $30 million donation to found the William S. Boyd School of Law, and the football stadium is named after his father, co-founder Sam Boyd.
“Boyd Gaming has been a valued partner of the university for decades,” said UNLV President Len Jessup in the statement. “Their support of the Hotel College will further elevate the program and help attract students who will become future leaders of the industry.”
Boyd Gaming runs several casinos around the valley, including the Orleans, the California and Sam’s Town.
