Plaza to display, sell sports memorabilia from the closed Las Vegas Club

The Plaza plans to open a special gallery next week filled with various sports-related items that previously decorated the shuttered Las Vegas Club.

The gallery will make its public debut Tuesday night and will include hundreds of items available for purchase, the Plaza announced today. A spokeswoman for the Plaza said the gallery will be located just off the casino floor.

Tamares Group, the Plaza’s owner, sold the Las Vegas Club in August to the owners of the D Las Vegas and the Golden Gate. The Las Vegas Club — which was once well-known for its sports theme — closed shortly thereafter while its new owners evaluate the best use of the property going forward.

Memorabilia for sale will include a signed Michael Jordan North Carolina Tar Heels basketball jersey and a collection of autographed bats from the 1946-1958 World Series games, according to the Plaza’s statement.

“At the Plaza, we celebrate the history of Las Vegas and wanted to share this vast collection of sports memorabilia with the general public,” Plaza Chief Executive Jonathan Jossel said in the statement.

The Plaza said it will donate 10 percent of each sale from the gallery to the UNLV Libraries Special Collections. Once it’s up and running, the gallery will be open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. all week.

Prices for memorabilia will start at $25.

Tuesday’s opening event starts at 7 p.m. and will include a drawing to win an item from the gallery.
