The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is reminding Nevada residents that they may ride the area’s newest express transit services for free through Oct. 31.

Latin Chamber introduces jobs programs

The Latin Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation has launched the Pueblo Verde Project and Healthcare Opportunities Today (HOT), two jobs-related programs funded through grants from Workforce Connections. The Pueblo Verde Project focuses on recycling, aquaculture and green manufacturing. The HOT Program is specific to jobs in health care.

McCarthy receives education award

McCarthy Building Companies, one of the nation’s oldest and largest privately-held construction companies and a longtime builder in Southern Nevada, has been honored with a 2011 Education Excellence Award from the Associated General Contractors of America. The award recognizes innovative and collaborative training and development programs in the construction industry. McCarthy was honored in the category of Supervisor-Executive Management for its Foundations of Leadership Training Program.

Benchmark adds to portfolio

Benchmark Association Services company has added Spring Pointe Condominiums, Aurora Estates and Carmel Canyon to its local client portfolio. Spring Pointe Condominiums is a 172-unit gated community, Aurora Estates is a gated estate community, and Carmel Canyon is a gated single-family community north of downtown Las Vegas.

Business attire to be collected

Gently used and cleaned business clothing will be collected at an employment suit drive that will be held by Hero School Employment Clothing Libraries from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 4. The event will take place at the office of Craig P. Kenny and Associates, 501 S. Eighth Street. Among items that will be accepted are business suits, ties, belts, slacks, dress pants, shoes, heels and clutches. More information is available by contacting Hero School.

RTC, businesses team up

The Rural Transportation Commission announced it has partnered with local business to offer commuters new park-and-ride lots for express transit. The new Henderson and Downtown Express route provides an express connection between downtown Las Vegas and downtown Henderson. The Boulder Highway Express provides faster service through the southeast portion of the valley from downtown Las Vegas to the Galleria Mall area. City National Bank offers grants

City National Bank is accepting applications for literacy grants, the seventh consecutive year the bank has offered the program to teachers and educators in its service areas. Approximately 100 grants totaling up to $75,000 may be awarded. Inquiries may be directed to City National Bank Vice President Paul C. Stowell.

Vegas PBS soars in viewership report

Vegas PBS ended the October 2010-through-September 2011 programming period as “most viewed” PBS station in the United States on a per capita basis, according to analysis released by TRAC Media Services. The ranking was based on Nielsen reports that calculate the rating points per quarter-hour for each day during the period. Vegas PBS also ranked No. 1 for Monday through Friday daytime children’s viewing during the same period.
