What is your hobby/sport?

Bicycling.

How many years ago did you start?

I started when I was 7 years old. In terms of riding for exercise, I started when I was 28.

When/how often do you get to ride?

I ride approximately three to four days weekly — 30 to 40 miles total weekly.

What is it that you enjoy most?

The great cardiopulmonary workout, the speed and the feel of wind against my face!

What products or gear are essential?

One needs a sturdy bike, helmet and appropriate clothes including gloves and shoes.

What tips do you have when you’ve “hit the wall?”

The ominous threat of getting out of shape motivates me to ride!

Are there other activities you’d like to try?

I also love to snowboard, hike as well as play the piano and organ.

Does bicycling require attention to what you eat?

My diet is very dull and boring — shredded wheat and berries with skim milk for breakfast, nuts and fruit for lunch, and whatever my wonderful wife fixes me for dinner, no questions asked or eyebrows raised. I eat very little red meat; mostly fish two to four times weekly.

What’s your guilty-pleasure food?

Anything with sugar in it — candy, frozen yogurt, pie (OK, I try to limit my intake of these deadly foods, some days more successfully than others)!
