Bruce Deifik, CEO of The Greenspun Corporation for the past 2 1/2 years, has announced plans to leave the organization effective Aug. 31.
Deifik said he plans to pursue other business interests and spend time with his family.
"When the world collapsed, and Las Vegas specifically, Bruce Deifik stepped up to provide essential and inspired leadership to move our family forward through the most difficult of times. During that time, he put his family and his interests on hold. He has now decided that it is time for him to put his family first once again,'' said Brian Greenspun, chairman of The Greenspun Corporation. "I agree with that decision and will be forever grateful for all that he has done to help us weather this storm. While we wish him well, we also know that there will be plenty of opportunities for us to work together and I look forward to them.”
The Greenspun Corporation has extensive Southern Nevada real estate, media and tourism-industry holdings.
The company’s American Nevada Company developed the Green Valley, Green Valley Ranch, Seven Hills and Aliante planned communities.
It owns the travel website VEGAS.COM and its Greenspun Media Group includes the Las Vegas Sun daily newspaper, several weekly and monthly publications and their websites.
Deifik, who served the company during the worst recession in local memory, was credited in a company statement with successfully transitioning The Greenspun Corporation into a leaner and lighter organization.
"Many years ago we began a journey with dreams in our eyes, hopes in our heart and belief in our capabilities to grow and shape our family of companies. I sincerely thank you all for the journey, the support, the cooperation and team spirit that has enabled us to weather the storms and come this far," Deifik told the company staff in a June 6 note announcing his resignation plans.
"We have worked together as a family and each and every one of you have significantly contributed to a number of successful, thriving companies that will out-live us all," said Deifik who was named CEO of The Greenspun Corporation in December 2008 after leading American Nevada Company for three years.
He joined the company with 17 years of development experience, much of it in Denver, and has served numerous community groups as a board member or trustee including the Nevada Cancer Institute and the National Jewish Medical Center.
The Greenspun Corporation has not yet named a successor to Deifik.
