Railroad Pass adding travel center

Henderson’s Railroad Pass Casino, which bills itself as the longest-running casino in the country, has begun construction on a travel center.

Construction began Wednesday on the Railroad Pass Travel Center in Henderson.

The travel center will consist of a truck stop, a Chevron-branded gas station, an 8,000 square-foot convenience store with truckers’ amenities and Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, a truck scale and propane facility.

The project will be built on 16 acres of land adjoining Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino, a fixture on U.S. 93-95 between Henderson proper and Boulder City since 1931 which bills itself as the nation’s longest-running casino,.

In addition to fuel and food, the travel center will carry merchandise for truckers and recreationalists such as cyclists and boaters.

“With very easy on-and-off access from the new Interstate 11, our travel center is destined to become the natural stopping point for all who travel to or from Las Vegas from the southeast,” Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino owner Joe DeSimone said.

DeSimone, a longtime local real estate professional, completed the purchase of Railroad Pass from MGM Resorts International in 2015. Improvements to the property, since he made the purchase include new exterior paint and fixes to the casino roof.

The travel center project is scheduled for completion in the third quarter.
