You gotta love Southwest's Darwinian boarding policy. Sadly, still the best airline out there. Oddly enough, de-regulation, which is usually a good thing, hosed the airline industry and the consumer.

911 sure helped, too.

So torn on this one. Yea, for the jobs, but boo to another industry with a bad rep coming here. Can't we just host more data centers?

Zappos, we do have Switch Communications here. They have yet to be hacked. Maybe you should move your servers closer to home. The tech jobs, we do need!

Not to sound like a six-year old, but Righthaven, you started it!

So sorry to hear this. Terrible at this time of year, especially. My condolences to the family and friends.

Good grief, really? Best of luck to them, but it's been a long time since KISS was relevant. No offense to you boomers, but Prince, and Simon LeBon are old guys now, so us Gen-Xers have to deal with aging too. KISS was elementary to Jr. High for me and I'm in my 40's.

I hope this is true. We used to have a different, more diverse economy back in the 80's until PEPCON went boom and the test site shut down. Manufacturing jobs would be good for us. Not everybody has the potential to be a doctor or a scientist. We need jobs for everyone.

I disagree, TomD1228. I hired three overqualified people back when I did hiring for my department and they were three of my best employees. One wanted to be semi-retired, and two just really needed a job. One of the two who just needed a job left after two years when she found something in her field of education, but she gave me really excellent service while she was there.

Also, I believe certain employees stagnate when they have been in a position for too long. I suppose a lot depends on the field you are in.

The red-flag for me is the person who has never held down a position for more than a year. That's a person who does not play well with others. (An exception would be the newish-to-the workforce person who hit the job market right when the collapse came.)

To say that anyone in Vegas who is quality has a job, well, It is just not true. There is a talent glut out there.

My plumbing is jacked, too. I bought from Centex in late 2000. It's not listed as one of the affected builders, but my neighbor reports issues with his pipes as well. Centex bought out Real Homes, and quality went way down.

I guess I am lucky that the plumbing worked okay for the first five years, and the AC for the first five. The AC was a three-grand replacement.

Too bad mortgages are for fifteen to thirty years. Stuff starts breaking pretty quick these days. My former home, built by Real Homes prior to the buyout, has had no issues that I am aware of.

This is a state where they can come back on you for judgement, years down the road based on default. The minute Nevada looks like it's recovered, those banks are going to be on people like white on rice.

You'd think that since they gave back the collateral, (the house) they'd be okay, but that's not the case. Google the WSJ article on summary judgement.
