Describe your business.

The Kiddie Academy of Henderson is educational child care that focuses on days filled with learning and fun, the key ingredients for our Life Essentials educational philosophy.

Tell us about the Life Essentials program.

Life Essentials is based on four pillars: developmentally appropriate curriculum, character education, technology education, and health and fitness.

• Developmentally appropriate curriculum: Our standards-based curriculum is designed to suit each stage of child development, from infancy up to 12 years.

• Character education: It’s never too early for kids to learn the values that will help them to develop into good citizens. From the playground to the classroom, we take advantage of every opportunity for children to learn values such as respect, friendship, sharing and kindness.

• Technology education: We take advantage of the latest learning software and technology to make learning engaging and fun. Children learn computer literacy — a skill as essential as reading and writing.

• Health and fitness: Learning and encouraging health and fitness at a young age is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Good physical health is a critical component of brain development. We provide nutritious meals and ample playground time for physical activities.

What makes Kiddie Academy unique?

We are a nationally networked franchise, which ensures strict standards and a consistent experience for your child. We encourage children to explore and progress at their own pace, in their own style. When a child learns and plays in this manner, he or she is empowered to learn and grow socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually. At Kiddie Academy, we never take a moment of a child’s growth potential for granted.

How do you incorporate health into your education program?

Health and wellness is important to both of us. We believe we can exceed the recommended nutritional basics, teach proper handwashing technique and encourage personal hygiene while maintaining a positive, fun and inviting environment.

What’s the most important part of your job?

It is imperative we exceed the educational standards for our students and gain the trust of parents. Fortunately, we have an excellent director with years of experience and an equally capable support staff.

What is the hardest part about doing business in Southern Nevada?

The most difficult part of business here is the transient population. Retention of our teachers is very important to maintain continuity of the educational process of our children.

How can Nevada improve its business climate?

Maintaining incentives and tax breaks to small-business owners is important. Also, furthering educational standards is a big need in specifically our type of business climate.

What have you learned from the recession?

Small-business owners need to be cognizant of the costs of owning and operating a business. A smart business plan is extremely important. Adhering to a budget is imperative for survival.
